CFS-NWT
CFS-NWT is a non-profit organization administered by the Smart Communities Society,
registered by the Government of the Northwest Territories under theSocieties Act.
CFS-NWT provides over 600 computers each year to schools, libraries, community
access sites, and non-profit organizations in the north.

Youth Training
Technical Work Experience Project (TWEP) is a national employment initiative that is very useful for the youths.
CFS-NWT has trained over thirty school and college students since 2004. The TWEP program employs youth,
under age 30, to work at the refurbishing centre and gain experience and knowledge of computers
and computer equipment. We design and deliver workshops to the Aboriginal/ First Nations
people and communities.

Recycling of e-waste:
Since there is no e-waste facility available in Yellowknife, this program avoided over 70,000 kg
of electronic waste going into the city dump and is regarded as a “best practice” program for keeping
material, often potentially toxic, out of landfill sites. In 2008 we received a certificate of appreciation from
the City of Yellowknife for our outstanding efforts in recycling.

Who Can Donate Computers to CFS?
CFS-NWT receives donations of computers and computer equipment
from various sources throughout the NWT (i.e. the federal government,

     and 20 GB hard drive.
